About us
Gymnasium Theresianum
As the headmistress of the Theresianum, I am pleased to welcome you to our website.
Our school, which caters for both day pupils and boarders, was founded by Maria Theresia in 1746 and combines a long, successful tradition with a forward-thinking approach.
Besides providing a well-rounded general education, we focus in particular on developing a high standard of wide-ranging foreign language skills. To this end, we operate a special language-teaching model, complemented by numerous foreign exchanges and projects with our 18 partner schools around the world. Another major aspect of our educational focus is sport, both in our gyms and swimming pool and in our extensive park with its ancient trees and facilities for various sports. Throughout the year, numerous events and festivals take place. Due to the close connections with the school formed among both day pupils and boarders, a network of friendships continues to develop from which school alumni can profit for the rest of their lives.
Our dedicated teachers see their job not merely as transmitting knowledge to the pupils, but above all as helping them to develop their own individual personalities.
It is particularly important for us that, during their time at school, our pupils gain a sense of responsibility and satisfaction in their achievements, as well as developing positive characteristics such as tolerance, courtesy and empathy. We want them to approach life’s challenges with self-confidence and courage and are keen for them to foster values such as integrity, honesty, fairness, justice and social responsibility.
In this way, we hope that they can realise their full potential and become open-minded European citizens, ready – as our founder Maria Theresia would have wished – to take on positions of responsibility in society.
