Lessons
The Theresianum is a grammar school (Gymnasium) with a focus on languages. Its special timetable contains four compulsory foreign languages: French or English from the first form, the other of these two from the third form, Latin from the fourth form and Russian, the third living language, from the sixth form. The primary focus is on modern foreign languages. Strong focus is also put on sport, with timetabled sports lessons complemented by numerous optional activities such as football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, badminton and athletics.
In addition, we focus on various age-related themes, such as 'Health and sport' in the first and second forms. This involves a daily sports lesson (including a joint weekly lesson for girls and boys), a monthly seminar on healthy eating and treatment of the topic in natural science lessons.
In the third and fourth forms, due to the fact that natural sciences subjects are combined, we focus on these. The four-week 'Natural Sciences Laboratory' project uses experiments and excursions for two hours each week to intensify and expand the knowledge pupils have gained during the lessons.
In the upper forms, the four foreign languages are studied in depth, as befits a school with a linguistic focus. On top of this, there are extra options such as Italian and Spanish as elective subjects, or a range of private courses (requiring registration) in Japanese, Chinese and other languages.
From the 6th form onwards, elective subjects in business and life science are offered to prepare pupils for studying economics or medicine.
