The fourth transnational meeting in Stockholm, Sweden

The fourth transnational meeting was in Stockholm 10-13th of February 2019. We started with optional cultural activities on Sunday depending on arrival time in Stockholm. On Monday we had presentations about the two topics from the last meeting in Portugal, which was Group + (to divide students into different levels of educational needs and teach them differently to achieve development.) The other topic was the i -program (to use iPads and apps as pedagogical tools in lessons). We also had presentations about work practice in education, which was a topic from Italy that we did not have time to present at the last meeting in Portugal. Cultural activities were offered in evenings for example a guided tour in Old Town, a visit to the Wasa museum, guided tour in the Swedish parliament and the City Hall. On Tuesday Östra Real showed their school and presented two new methods for the group to try out. The last day we had a summary and evaluation of the project so far. The coordinator gave information about next meeting and European week that will be in Finland 24^th-30^th of April. We also discussed and decided dates for next meeting in Poland. We agreed of the dates 29^th of September - 2^nd of October 2019.

The outcome of presentations:

Group + Many of the countries/ schools had policies not to divide students into groups according to their needs and level of knowledge. However, when trying this out, students response has been positive. They say it is easier to ask questions and work together with students struggling with the same things. Teachers were also positive to the results. However, it might not be possible to carry it out because of the school policy or timetable limitations.

I-program – Many schools did not have IPad but computers or cellphones. Nevertheless, one of the schools in Poland was so inspired from the meeting in Portugal that they bought IPads, to test the app method. Other countries presented other digital tools they use successfully in lessons. We decided to make a digital list with all sorts of good webpages, links etc. to use in education and spread to all participants in the project.

Work practice – All schools in all countries had some kind of cooperation or work practice with companies or organizations outside the school building. We agreed that pupils developed many skills and knowledge in those situations but it can be hard to find suitable work practice places, which then includes a lot of work, which is time consuming.

Summary and evaluation: We all agreed that it is very interesting to try out different methods given from different transnational meetings. The time between trying out a method and presenting the result is a little bit too short. However, we go on with methods we like and think suit a specific school or country. For example the Austrian school has tested peer education, addressed in Mantova, Italy last spring. They have seen results from the experiment now and will go on with the method. We also discussed the format of Powerpoints, logos and also naming of powerpoints to make documentation easier.

New methods from Sweden,

Picture – A presentation about how to combine digital and traditional teaching. A method explained with a few steps; to show students a picture or a statement digitally, then to divide them into groups. Next step was to give them a problem to find out why the statement was written or what the picture showed. Student should then try to find out by talking digitally with each other in a space where the teacher can follow. Deadline should be after a few days. At lesson then the teacher can talk about different solutions that the students has come up with. They can also discuss reference material etc.

Digiexam – A workshop with the whole Erasmus group together with a class of pupils at Östra Reals gymnasium. We could test the digital tool Östra real uses for writing exams, corrections and feedback digitally.

New methods to try out

The task for the Erasmus group to our next meeting in Finland:

Powerpoint, named “Digiexam –country” Explain what digital administrative tools you have for writing exams or correcting and how to get feedback to pupils. Pros and cons with it from teacher and pupil view.
Powerpoint, named “Picture” – country”. Make a lesson starting with a picture or statement. Divide students into groups – discussing digitally (so you can follow what they do) to find solutions to the problem. Student-groups send solutions to the teacher. Next lesson - go through what they found out and use the different solutions from the groups to explain what they have seen in the picture/statement showed the first lesson. Discuss where they got the information, and how they solved the problem.
